Tallow - Natures Moisturiser

Tallow is one of those timeless remedies that feels both old and new, carrying with it a kind of ancestral memory. Long before the world of lotions, serums, and synthetic creams, people reached for simple things to care for their skin - things that mirrored the body, that felt familiar and nourishing. Tallow has always been one of those things.
Across history, it was everywhere. In Rome, it was stirred with herbs and resins for healing salves. In medieval homes, families rendered their own to use for soap, ointments, and candles. Many Indigenous peoples relied on animal fats to protect their skin from wind, cold, and harsh climates. It worked because it spoke the same language as our skin - the fatty acids in tallow are almost identical to the ones we naturally produce, which makes it absorb so easily, leaving the skin soft, comforted, and resilient.
When it’s whipped with a few plant allies, it becomes even more versatile. Castor oil, thick and glossy, has a way of drawing moisture deep into the skin while helping to clear and soften. Jojoba oil, which isn’t really an oil at all but a liquid wax, is nearly indistinguishable from our own sebum, so it balances, smooths, and protects without heaviness. And then there’s vitamin E — an antioxidant that supports repair, slows the effects of stress on the skin, and also keeps the balm fresh and stable.
Each ingredient brings its own gift:
Tallow: rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, strengthens the skin barrier, locks in hydration, and calms irritation.
Castor oil: deeply penetrating, draws in moisture, supports smoother texture, and helps detoxify congested skin.
Jojoba oil: balances oil production, protects from environmental stress, absorbs quickly, and restores softness.
Vitamin E: aids healing, protects against free radicals, reduces the appearance of scars, and helps preserve the blend.
Because of its nutrient density and gentle nature, our whipped tallow balm has a wide range of uses.
People often reach for it to support skin experiencing:
Dry & dehydrated skin – locking in long-lasting hydration.
Eczema and dermatitis – soothing flare-ups with calming, anti-inflammatory fats.
Psoriasis – softening and relieving scaling or dryness.
Chapped lips and cracked heels – repairing rough or broken skin.
Minor wounds or abrasions – supporting the skin’s natural healing process.
Nappy rash and baby skin – gentle enough for delicate areas.
Mature or aging skin – helping maintain suppleness, elasticity, and glow.
Tallow is one of those things that reminds us we don’t always need complexity. Sometimes the best care is found in the things that have been here all along, carrying the wisdom of centuries, ready to be used again.
